It could be cut on appeal. But when you look at the breakdown it doesn't seem as crazy. To some extent it hinges on whether the plaintiffs' expert on the monetary value of the damage to the women's reputation are reasonable -- that was a little less than 20 million each. And then there was a separate 20 million each for infliction of emotional distress -- which to me does not seem unreasonable. Then there was 75 million in punitive damages. I don't know what the test on appeal is for that, but it seems like the jury voted to impose the socioeconomic death penalty on "America's Mayor" -- in his opening statement, Giuliani's lawyer said a big judgment against Giuliani would be a "death sentence" - HA! (Other than that, I felt really sorry for that lawyer. And he had some guts to say some of the things he said with Giuliani sitting right there. He basically said Giuliani was insane -- compared him to a Flat Earther -- to the jury, and in public court in the federal courthouse in Washington D.C., with Giuliani sitting right there! That is amazing! Why didn't the reporters ask him about that?!?)

I don’t say this out of sympathy for Rudy, certainly. Then there is the fact that he will never be able to pay less than a small fraction of this. I don’t think it is in anyone’s benefit to see unrealistic figures.

So for purely personal/partisan political power purposes, he (among others but very prominently) singled out these completely innocent women doing their job, named them, and said they were doing something illegal with the ballots to rig it against trump. So in his desperate ploy to steal the election for trump, he made them, by name, hated, evil people in a chunk of right wing white America -- people who are pretty hateful anyway. Those women will probably have to live with some of that hatred lingering for the rest of their lives. Of course Giuliani can't pay that much, but I'm with the jury -- he should live out his life indentured to these completely innocent people he wronged.

Unjustly accusing someone of a felony is a crime. The right wing will learn this detail eventually.

This won't cost Rudy a brass farthing, he'll just keep appealing until he dies.
